Bus Accidents
Bus accidents occur less frequently than other automobile accidents, but they are still dangerous. In the year 2000, over 1,500 people were injured and six people were killed in collisions involving city or school buses, according to a Texas Transit Safety Report from the Bureau of Transportation. Extreme weather conditions, poor roads, driver error, or faulty road designs can cause a bus collision. A bus driver may also become reckless due to substance abuse or road rage.
In some cases, bus companies may not maintain their vehicles sufficiently. If such poor maintenance leads to an accident, the corporation is required by law to provide restitution to each victim, whether a bus passenger, pedestrian, or a driver of or passenger in another vehicle. Some buses are still made with defective parts or products, making the manufacturer liable for ensuing accidents.
